No need to worry anymore if you forgot to thaw your sausages in the fridge overnight as cavalry is here. In fact, it is now a lot easier to do if you own an air fryer.

Cooking sausage in the oven is easier than you think regardless of whether it is frozen or fresh. You only need one ingredient, an oven that works perfectly, and a timer. Another good thing is that no babysitting is needed and breakfast can happen just as you imagined it.

There are so many reasons you want to freeze sausages apart from maybe you bought too many. Freezing foodstuff or leftovers also ensures their freshness and reduces food waste which is great for the environment. And the best part is it's not even hard to do.

Rimmed baking sheet

Aluminum foil

kitchen tong

Air fryer if you are not using the oven

How to cook frozen sausages in the oven

Preheat the oven at 200C/400F, line a baking tray with parchment paper or aluminum foil and spray it with cooking oil.

Place the frozen sausages on the lined baking sheet, (no problem if it is clumped together) and place the tray in the preheated oven.

If the sausages are clumped together, after 7 minutes, carefully remove the baking tray from the oven and place it on a sturdy worktop. using your hand if the sausages are not too hot, separate them and cut the link if need be. Arrange the sausages in a single layer

Return the sausages into the oven and continue to cook for another 5 minutes, flip and cook for a further 5 to 8 until golden brown and well cooked or until the internal temperature reaches 165F.

Remove from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes before serving with your choice of sides.

How to cook frozen sausages in an air fryer

Preheat the air fryer at 365F/180C for 5 minutes

Place the frozen sausages in the air fryer basket and cook for 5 minutes. Separate the links if clumped together and lay the sausages on a single layer

Continue to cook for another 7-10 minutes until golden brown and well cooked or until the internal temperature reaches 165F.

Remove from the air fryer, let cool for a few minutes before serving with your choice of sides.

How long to cook sausages in oven

This will depend on the size and type of the sausages and the temperature cooked at. Typically at 400F/200C, fresh sausages will cook between 25-30 minutes, add about 5-10 minutes for frozen sausages.

If you are unsure if the sausages are fully cooked, check with an instant meat thermometer and it should be safe to eat once it registers 165F/74C.

How to cook frozen sausages in air fryer

  • Preheat the air fryer at 180C/360F
  • Place the frozen sausages in the air fryer basket and cook for 5 minutes
  • Remove the air fryer basket from the air fryer and separate the sausages.
  • Continue to cook the sausages for another 7 to 10 minutes flipping halfway through or until the internal temperature of the sausages registers 160F/71C
  • Remove from the air fryer immediately and serve

  • Preheat the oven at 200C/400F and line a rimmed baking tray with parchment paper
  • Place the frozen sausages on the tray, place it in the oven and cook for 8-10 minutes, just enough to separate the sausages. Cut the links at this point as well if they are still linked together.
  • Return the sausages to the oven and cook for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the sausages are well cooked or the internal temperature register 160F/71C. (Flip the sausages halfway through for even cooking.
